Subject: Something Old, Something Sad, Something New

Hey Friend,

We had a chance to see another act while on the cruise that I think many of you would enjoy - The Beatle Maniacs

I guess I could have titled this message “Something…"

These guys put on quite a show, complete with costume changes and the same witty banter the Beatles were known for on stage. Most of us aren’t lucky enough to have seen the Beatles live before they stopped touring in the mid-1960s, so a tribute band like this is the closest we’ll ever come.

I have to say, their attention to detail was definitely appreciated. From the mannerisms of John, Paul, George and Ringo, to their accents and costumes, the Beatlemaniacs really worked at making us feel like we were witnessing a real Beatles show.

Where else can you listen live to music that was never played live before an audience? The Beatles quit touring in 1966, but released six of the most influential albums after that time, including The White Album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road.

It was great to hear a handful of Beatles classics live from the stage, and I’d encourage anyone who has the opportunity to see The Beatlemaniacs to do so. Of course, you have to cruise with Princess/Royal Caribbean to do so, as the band tours internationally on the cruise ships.

I’m sure you can talk your "significant other” into taking a cruise - living like a king/queen for a few days…

Switching gears, I was bummed to come back and find out Malcolm Young of AC/DC has passed away. Another great musician moving on to the great Rock & Roll show in Heaven…

I read an interview with Angus Young where he talked about Malcolm and the importance of AC/DC's rhythm section. Rhythm guitarists seldom get the credit due to them for the solid foundation they create for the song.

The singer and lead guitarist usually get the spotlight, but it’s the rhythm guys that hold it all together and give the music the solid Rock punch we love so much.

Anyway, it’s coming to the end of an era, with so many of our great Rockers passing on.

There is some light on the horizon, though.

I also say that Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold is creating a new online community to teach guitar. He’s partnering with his dad, who has been a professional studio guitarist for 40 plus years.

They're calling it the Synyster Gates School.

The goal of the site is to create a learning environment where “Syn” and “Papa” Gates will give lessons totally free.

Now Avenged Sevenfold might not be your favorite musical style, but both the Gates are highly skilled and technically musical, so I’m positive we will learn good stuff from them.

You might be thinking, why would I point you to a pro musician’s website to learn from instead of pointing you back to my stuff. Bottom line, I don’t want to hold you back! And did I mention it's FREE?

These guys do music 24/7, while I still have to work a j.o.b. to make ends meet. If you can learn something from them and advance your own musical goals, Rock On!

Speaking of j.o.b., I gotta go. Keep the shiny side up, will ya? See you tomorrow...

Peace~
