Subject: Ramblin’ Man

Hey Friend,

Whassup?! Happy Friday!

Just a short one today. Guitar World recently ran an article in tribute to Gregg Allman, who passed away in May of this year.

You might recognize the Allman Brothers Band from their hit “Ramblin’ Man.”

The Allman Brothers Band has been one of the most iconic Southern Rock bands in history, getting its start in 1969. They were a jam band that enjoyed getting on stage and just playing, allowing the music to take them where it would as they played through their songs.

Despite the 1971 death of Duane Allman, Gregg's brother and founder of the band, they managed to stay together as a band until 2014.

I can’t say I’ve been a fan of The Allman Brothers Band, as I’ve never considered pure Southern Rock as a main influence, but there’s no denying the influence the Allman Brothers have had on the evolution of Rock music.

They laid the groundwork for bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and .38 Special.

There are countless artists that point to the work of the Allman Brothers as a source of influence. For example, one of my influences, Joe Walsh, learned slide guitar from Duane Allman (and I’m pretty sure Joe isn’t the only one).

Have a great one - the weekend is upon us!

Peace~
