Subject: Playing Over E Minor

Hey Friend,

Did you have a nice weekend? Hope so…

Let’s get back to hearing what the C major scale sounds like played over the chords that naturally fit with the key (of C major).

We’re up to E minor.

Here is the MP3:

Intervals over C PDF (if you need this again)

The Em triad is created when you play the E, G and B notes together.

When you hear the C major scale played over Em, you’ll notice three intervals sound like they fit with the chord.

Those interval are the major third (C to E), the perfect fifth (C to G) and the major seventh (C to B). From the exercise files, those are the second, fourth and sixth systems (four bar section).

The other systems have a fair amount of conflict, particularly the C to D interval (major second) and the perfect octave (C to C).

Which of the intervals stand out for you when played over E minor?

Tomorrow we’ll listen to the scale played over F major. Have a great one!

Peace~
