Subject: Pick Your Poison

Hey Friend,

I flew back to Fayetteville this morning, and boy are my arms tired! Ba da, boom.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I guess that's what happens on 4 hours of sleep. My flight was leaving at 0530 hours (that's 5:30 AM for you non-military/medical types) from Daytona Beach, so it was an early start to the day. So far so good...

Over the next few days, I'm going to start covering individual guitar chords in depth. Before I start, I have a question for you:

Which approach will be more effective for you - covering chords based on their pitch, or by key groups?

If I cover by pitch, for example, I would stick with the various forms of a chord such as D or G. So you would get D, Dm, Dsus2, D7 and so on.

If I cover by key, I would show you the chords in a key group, like D, Em, F#m, etc.

There are benefits and drawbacks to each approach. If by key, you get the complement of chords that can be used together in a song. But then you're limited to only one form of each.

By pitch, you would get a bunch of chord forms and shapes that you could then move around the neck to play other chords. But you wouldn't necessarily know which chords belong in a given key so you could play songs.

If you'd do me a favor and weigh in with your opinion, it'll give me a better idea how best to proceed.

If you've emailed me over the past few weeks, I'm not ignoring you. I will  reply - I'm working through them as I get a spare minute here and there.

Talk to you tomorrow - have a great day!

Peace~

Dave
