Subject: Phrygian Exercises

Hey Friend,

The Phrygian mode (III) continues the party, starting with the E note. That means we can start either at the twelfth fret, or the open position on the fingerboard.

BTW, it’s pronounced “frigian” in case you were wondering. Kinda like in “refrigerator."

So I did you a solid and gave you both fingering positions. That way, regardless of your chosen guitar, you can play through these easily.

I mentioned that beside the notes in the top part of each system, you can see little numbers that indicate which finger you use to play the note.

I want to draw your attention to those fingerings. As you play through each mode, see if you can notice any patterns across the strings.

Go back and review the Ionian and Dorian modes. Do you recognize any patterns emerging?

We’ll come back to this idea, but for now, here are the exercises for the Phrygian mode.

Hope you have a better Monday than I’ve had already!

There was a coffee catastrophe, and you know when that happens, the day is starting on shaky ground. Fortunately, I think I was able to salvage it, but it IS Monday… ;-)

Peace~
