There's another 7 chord we haven't talked about yet. I saved it for last because it's not one you're going to see a lot in Rock music. This is the Major 7 chord. Now I know I said I was only looking at chords that you'll see regularly, but I'm making an exception with this one - because I like it. This isn't to say you won't see a major 7 chord in Rock songs, they're just more likely in Jazz and some Pop.

Like its brother the minor 7 chord, the major 7 has a melancholy sound, but more like you're anticipating something good coming your way but you're not really sure what it will be.

The Major 7 is notated like this: 7M - So take the letter name, add the 7M and you have the designation.

The Major 7 chord changes our seven note from the minor 7 interval to the major 7 interval - so the note is a half-step below the octave note. This note is in addition to a regular major chord.

Sticking with the key of D major, we again start out with the key of D major with notes D, E, F#, G, A, B, C# and (D). The notes we'll use are D, F#, A and C#. As you'll see in the exercise files, in the second inversion open position, the D7M is really easy to play by barring the first three strings at the second fret and including the open D string as your root.
