Subject: Locrian Exercises

Hey Friend,

A Happy Friday to you!

Last, but not least, in our line-up of modes, the Locrian mode. Sounds like the name from some alien race in Star Trek, right?

“Captain, the Locrian warship is on a collision course with the Enterprise!”

Yeah, I’ve spent some time over the years watching old re-runs and movies...

The Locrian mode starts out on the B note (the seventh scale degree). We've just about come full circle to return to C as the root.

Here’s how the notes lay out:

7  1  2  3 4  5  6
B  C D E F G  A

Play through the exercises, and watch your fingering. Remember, you’re not just learning the location of notes on the fingerboard.

You’re also training your fingers to remember patterns. Believe it or not, your muscle memory is always at work, remembering the repetitive patterns you follow every day.

That’s why we get into routines, doing things the same way each time. I’ll bet you brush your teeth starting on the same set of teeth every time.

To break patterns, you have to consciously force your muscles to do something different.

So get these patterns ingrained in your finger's muscle memory and they will serve you well.

Here are the exercises:

Alright, eight and a half hours and counting until the weekend is officially kicked off... Rock on!

Peace~
