Hey Friend,
Happy Sunday! I’ll ask you to send some patience and luck my way today…
My youngest daughter got her temporary driving license, and we will go out for our first lesson later this morning…
I’ll keep this short. Learning economy picking is super beneficial to increasing your playing speed. But the only way it is trained into your muscle memory and subconscious is by practice.
I’ve got tons of exercises for you to begin working on. Let’s start with the basic C major scale, starting on the eighth fret.
Notice in the PDF that each note has a number next to it. This tells you which finger to use when fretting the note.
The upside-down ‘U’ is a downstroke with your pick. Just to be clear, a downstroke is when the pick is moving towards the floor.
The ‘V’ is an upstroke. An upstroke is picking movement towards the sky.
I know you’ve seen a basic C major scale before, but your focus in this exercise is on the picking motion. Pay special attention to the up and down motions for each note.
Play the exercise slowly to ensure you are picking in the right direction.
To underscore this, I’ll put together some tabs that really hone in on the motion.
Hope you have a great day - talk soon...
Peace~
