Hey Friend,
Sorry this is a bit rushed, but I had to drive half my family to the airport this morning. They’re going back to Ohio to chill (ha, no pun intended!) with the in-laws for a few days.
My youngest daughter and I are holding down the fort - it’s going to be a Walking Dead weekend!
I don’t know about you, but every time I think “Phrygian,” my mind immediately thinks “stygian,” which means ‘very dark.’ The word comes from the river “Styx,” which of course was the river separating Earth and the Underworld in Greek mythology.
Maybe it’s just because the words sound familiar - I mean, the mode certainly doesn’t sound that dark to me, but whatever...
The exercises today combine the Phrygian and Lydian modes. Those are the third and fourth scale degrees from the key of C major.
E F G A B C D (Phrygian)
and…
F G A B C D E (Lydian)
Again, I set up two sets of exercises, mainly because an acoustic guitar doesn’t have access to the upper pitches that an electric guitar has.
See you tomorrow!
Peace~
