Subject: Let’s Geek Out

Hey Friend,

While I work out all the details for the site moving forward, we’re going to keep it light.

I found a cool Youtube channel over the weekend. It’s by a radio station in Toronto, Canada that goes by the call sign Boom 97.3. They play a variety of “classic” music from the 70s, 80s and 90s…

It’s very weird for me to call that music “classic.” Before we know it, they’re going to refer to it as “oldies!” Dang!

Anyway, they have a show called “Behind the Vinyl,” where the original artists talk about their songs while listening to them on a vinyl album - just like we used to do.

This is so cool! You get to hear details about how the song came about, stories from the recording sessions and all sorts of good trivia.

It’s a little funny seeing these artists outside their “rockstar” personae. Just goes to show we’re all regular people trying to make our way in the short time we have here… Most of these people seem like they'd be fun to hang out with!

Who’s there, you ask?

Triumph
Rush
Bachman Turner Overdrive
A Flock of Seagulls
Dennis DeYoung of Styx
The B-52s
Gary Numan
Howard Jones
even Run-DMC

I love the moments in these videos where the artist is reminiscing about the studio session where the song took on life and the strange little occurrences that flipped the switch. You see their eyes light up and you can tell, this was a defining moment for them.

I totally get stoked by this stuff! Maybe you’re not a music geek like me, but I hope some of these can bring a smile to your face, or maybe some memories of what you were doing when you first heard them.

C’mon, geek out with me - have a great day!

Peace~

Dave
