Subject: I Saw Her Standing There Lesson 2

Hey Friend,

How did you do with the exercises yesterday?

The tempo is quite a bit faster than we’re used to working with, but not as fast as the boys originally played it (compare to the video from two days ago). It’s not the exact strum either, but it will suffice for our purposes here.

Again, take the chord changes slowly until your fingers know their ways, then work up to the tempo.

In today’s set, I’ve changed the chords to straight majors to contrast the Blues Rock approach of the song. This is what it may have sounded like had they chosen to write it in more of a Pop vein.

There’s an edginess to the progression using dominant 7th chords that you don’t feel when major chords are used.

Another thing to consider is how the progression works with the melody. Again, the minor 7 note from the E major scale has a very prominent presence in the melody. I’ll go into that a bit more tomorrow.

What I would like you to do is play the exercise from yesterday, then substitute the chords with major chords. This is what you’ll find in today’s lesson files.

Put on your critical listening ears and as you listen, think about the melody. Try to sing along with each progression version to hear how the chords influence the song.

Check you later...

Peace~

Dave
