Hey Friend,
Isn’t that the eternal question? How did your favorite guitar player get their rig to sound so freakin’ awesome?
It’s the stuff of legends, and a cause of endless tweaking on your amplifier controls.
Growing up and playing in bands, the best we could do was try to emulate what we heard with the amp we were lucky enough to own.
Of course, back in the day there was plenty of used gear to find, whether at the local music store or in the good-old classified ads of the newspaper. Some of the amplifiers that are vintage classics today could be found for a few hundred dollars then.
But we still didn't know ow those amp controls were set.
Fortunately, these days we have the Internet, not only to find gear we lust after, but also to research how exactly the artists create the tones we love.
I wanted to clue you in on a newsletter from one of my favorite vendors where you can find all sorts of usable information.
I’ve mentioned Sweetwater before. Lately, I’ve been getting some great articles in their “InSync” newsletter (not to be confused with the infamous boy band, N Sync).
There’s a series of articles in process to help us understand how electric guitar amps work and which amplifier brands and models help achieve the sounds we’re after.
Great, right?
But I was talking about emulating your guitar hero’s sound. Well, there’s another article I uncovered that helps decipher the mysteries behind some classic guitar amps.
I know getting your hands on any one of these amps can set you back $1000s, but there are alternatives. I’ll talk a little about those next time.
Have a great one - Hump Day!
Peace~
Dave
P.S. We’re not done talking about picking patterns, but I thought we could all use a little break...
