Here’s another distraction for you, Friend.
Practice your timing. Focus your effort to pluck a guitar string EXACTLY on a beat.
Do this:
Set your metronome to 80 BPM and start plucking.
Set your phone up with a free metronome (just do a search on your phone’s app store) app and your earbuds and have it tickin’ away in one ear while you pluck.
Or get a little creative. You can practice this smack dab in the middle of the ‘COPS' marathon, or whatever else passes for entertainment these days (uh, Tiger King, duh).
Pluck along with the theme song.
You can also go to the Google home page and search ‘metronome’ in your browser (any browser’ll work) to get an online metronome.
CAVEAT: I would NOT normally suggest you watch TV while you practice. Desperate times call for some adjustments in protocols, yo!
Timing is a critical skill when you play, regardless of what you’re doing.
Your timing tightens (or wrecks) your rhythm and accuracy, so it’s really important. It's the the one thing that locks you in with a groove, helps you to significantly reduce sloppiness in your playing.
The tighter your playing, the better you sound.
It might not feel like much, but little adjustments and fixes can create big improvements.
And probably in shorter time than you’d think.
We got some of that right now, so might as well put it to use.
Let’s show this COVID-19 'biatch' it can’t stop the music. Keep rockin’!
Peace~
Dave
P.S. Need more guitar goodness to not just keep you busy, but get you to the next level of your playing?
I saw Jamplay is offering 50% off their All Access and select courses. If you like the idea of learning direct from the guitarists that are writing and playing what you hear on gold and platinum-selling albums, it’s totally worth a look.
And, they’re giving free lessons to K-12 that have been shut down during the global lockdown. That’s pretty freakin’ cool, too!
