Subject: How About That Octave?

Hey Friend,

Sorry - I didn’t have a lot of time to write out any instructions, but here are some exercises demonstrating the use of the octave interval in songs.

I tabbed out two songs in both half and full tempo so you can practice.

The first is a perfect example of a riff capitalizing on the octave - one of my favorite examples, to be honest. Here’s the full video:

The second shows using a technique where you form the octave acrss three tstrings, muting the middle string with the edge of your ring finger.

The effect is a fuller sounding riff. This gets used all the time in Rock for these types of riffs and solos.

The exercise is the intro for the song, and here's the full video to “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit.

Try these out for yourself. I’ll come back to this Friday to talk in more detail. Have a great one!

Peace~
