Hey Friend,
Another quick one today…
I’ve put together another simple Travis picking pattern for you to try out. This will force your muscle memory to break from the first pattern you learned last week.
You may find this pattern easier than the first, but don’t be surprised if it’s a little more challenging.
Muscle memory is funny that way. If there is another pattern you’ve ingrained from some other activity (unrelated to guitar), this new Travis picking pattern could be simpler for you to learn.
Your fingers might find their groove more naturally with the strings plucked in consecutive order versus the string skipping pattern we looked at first.
For me, the one we did last week is easier. Ain’t it great we’re all different?!
Here is the notation for your picking hand again...
P = thumb
I = index finger
M = middle finger
A = ring finger
As you can see from the tabs, the picking pattern is in the same order as your fingers:
P I M A
Take the exercise slowly to get your fingers used to the pattern, and then work on the chord progression at the end.
If the tempo is too fast, listen to it to get the hang of it and then practice without the MP3. Once you’re confident in playing the pattern, then try to play along with the MP3.
Here are the exercise files:
Enjoy, and I hope you have a great Wednesday!
Peace~
