Subject: Guitar Juju

Hey Friend,

How ya doin'?

It's a crazy busy Tuesday for ol' Davey. Parents flew into town last night, Mother-in-Law will be flying in this afternoon. We'll be having a graduation ceremony tomorrow, then Thursday it's off to Tampa to visit with my Aunt and Uncle. All this before I start the new job on Tuesday (surprised I'm getting Memorial Day off, to tell the truth).

Good thing I have an idea what to write to you about today!

We've been running through ten reasons why it's wiser to use your time now learning guitar than it is working on home improvement projects.

Now Number four might be contested by the ladies in our little band of guitar maniacs, but in my eyes, I think guitar players have an edge...

Number 4...

10.    Less Offensive Visually
9.      More Mobile
8.      Less Tools Needed
7.      Less Physically Painful
6.      More Fun Socially
5.      More Impressive
4.      Sexier
3.      More Envy
2.      Less Expensive
1.      More Respect

I have to say I find it a little strange that my wife really likes seeing me work on stuff around the house. I guess for her, she's used to guitars being around and isn't all that wowed anymore. But when I'm all sweaty and cursing at every little hiccup and problem, she's all in. We do work well together, and she's always very willing to jump in and help - or tackle something on her own.

She's been known to go out and buy herself a tool for a job I wasn't even aware she wanted done. Once she bought a tile saw so she could put tile in all the bathrooms - and then proceeded to do it herself.

Anyway, I guess women like seeing guys working hard and getting all sweaty, but they also like a guy that can play guitar. Heck, that's why I started playing guitar in the first place. I certainly wasn't going to get any girl interested in me through my athletic ability!

That was one of the first things that hooked my wife in the first place. I was playing along to a Heart tune - just some simple chords, nothing fancy - and that was enough to ensure there would be a third date. Truth be told, years later (we've been together now 26 years) she told me playing that guitar was one of the hooks that reeled her in.

For my money, I'd rather have the girls gawking at me because I'm rocking a stage than because I was getting grungy grinding concrete! In my opinion, that seems like it would be a lot sexier. But then, I'm a guy - what do I know about what women find sexy?

Peace~

Dave

P.S. - By the way, that song by Heart? It wasn't even one of their good ones. And I was playing simple power chords along with the radio. But there's proof positive that power chords can have just as much influence as full chords. I just took the Easy Power Chord shapes and played right along with the song. I even let Ann and Nancy (Wilson) handle the hard stuff! Get the juju of Easy Power Chords here.
