Hey Friend,
Morning... I had a few minutes before diving into the weekend of renovation work, so I put some music on - something I haven't listened to before.
I happened to get this particular album as a free bonus to something else. I don't even remember what I had purchased - I think it was something for my youngest daughter - but I thought I'd give it a shot.
It's the Xscape album by Michael Jackson. This was released in 2014, 5 years after his death.
I've never really been interested in much of the music he did after Thriller, and most of this album seems to be comprised of tunes that come from later periods, but sometimes you find gems. One of the songs took me back to the "Off The Wall" days, and that made this little excursion worth it.
Makes sense, because it was originally recorded back in 1983. The song is called " Love Never Felt So Good" The album version doesn't have Justin Timberlake singing on it, but at least you get the feel of the song.
It's a good practice to step out of your normal musical mindset every once on a while and give your ears something different to sample. I really like to listen to the R&B/Pop stuff from the late 70s and early 80s because of the funky guitar riffs you can hear supporting the song melody.
Listening to this this style of playing really helps me think about ways to create subtle musical parts that catch you off-guard and give your ears something to perk up for.
Anyway, just some miscellaneous ramblings for Saturday morning. Rock it!
Peace~
