Subject: Focus...

Hey Friend,

Another change I’m working on in 2018 is to simplify and stay true to what I know I can do well.

I’m a serial learner - I’m always juggling a half-dozen topics in my head, from guitar, music production, the latest home improvement project, or how to write better…

The problem with all the interests is they become like voices in my head - always clamoring for my attention and trying to take center stage. If only they’d learn how to sing in chorus, I might actually make progress on one or two of them!

But that “affliction” tends to prevent becoming any good. Just when I start to make a little progress, I get distracted by another interest and chase that rabbit across the field to a new rabbit hole.

That's not good for you, either.

When it comes to guitar, the same can be said. There are a lot of options, from a local instructor to online education sites, colleges and Rock stars giving advice. It’s way too easy to get lost in your pursuit to learn how to play.

One Youtube video view might bring up suggestions taking you to a concert, which then points you to a guitarist promoting his band’s new album, which could then suggest a video on swimming pools… One distraction leads to the next.

I want to help you regain a bit of that focus and give you what you came to me for in the first place - the skills you need to play Rock guitar.

So that’s what will get the attention this year - what do you need to know to play guitar, and how do you do it.

You know, the basic stuff to get you from a brand new guitar player to an intermediate level.

I’m not a lead guitar player. Yes, I have played leads, but it is not where my strength lies. I’m a solid rhythm player, and I’ve taught enough students to realize I can be a decent teacher.

So in 2018, you will get solid instruction on the foundational guitar skills you need to get you to your goals, whether that’s to write songs or rock arenas.

With a solid base, your tone will improve and give you the infrastructure to grow to whatever kind of player you want to be.

And for those of you who have the basics down, don’t worry, I’m not going to totally abandon digging into advanced stuff. But I’ll probably set up a different section for that.

Alright, until tomorrow, see ya!

Peace~
