Subject: E Major Progression Exercise 3

Hey Friend,

The next progression is one you will see in Rock all the time...

The VIm IV I V progression. In our case, these are chords C#m, B, E and A.

The first song I thought of for this progression was "Holiday" by Green Day.  They don't actually play this in the key of E - they have drop-tuned their guitars to E flat, and I believe the progression is in A, but you'll get the idea.

I've got the tempo set a 100 BPM (beats per minute), which shouldn't be too hard with all the practice you've had with these chords so far. You can always take your time learning the movements for the progression and work up to the speed.

As you can hear in the video, "Holiday" has an even faster tempo than 100BPM. Most of the time, these guys (rockers) are using power chords instead of the full triads (the 3 note gets left out in a power chord).

Power chords can help you move faster around the neck because the chord shape doesn't change at all. You only have to worry about having your fingers on the correct strings in the correct positions.

Download the exercises here and commence to rocking...

Have a fabulous day!

Peace~
