Subject: D to F#m Chord Changes

Hey Friend,

It's helpful to see how chords interact together, and I thought you would enjoy an exercise showing the D to F#m change in various positions.

As you play through the exercises, I want you to pay attention to the fact that between the two chords, they are nearly identical. The only difference is one note, and the difference between those two notes in pitch is only a half step.

Yet both chords have their own distinct sound. Have you figured out which note changes on the D major triad to make the F#m?

Another interesting observation you might make is that you can play a D major shape above an F# minor chord on the neck. Even though the harmonic progression moves from lower pitch to higher pitch, it's very easy to switch it up and give the progression a much different tone and feel.

I hope you're starting to get a feel for the flexibility you have when you can find the triad notes in different locations on the neck. I had fun putting this exercise together - enjoy!

Peace~
