Hey Friend,
Well, as a former Clevelander, all I can say about the Cleveland Indians loss to the Chicago Cubs in the World Series is, I'm glad it was against a team that had an even longer losing streak than the Indians.
As we have said in Cleveland for decades, maybe next year.
Sooo, D major. Let's review.
The D major triad is made from the 1 3 5 notes (D, F# and A) of the D major scale. Here are the notes:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 D E F# G A B C#
All the primary chords in the key of D major are constructed from this scale using the 1 3 5 pattern. Here are those chords again:
I IIm IIIm IV V VIm VII° D Em F#m G A Bm C#°
So if you pick any chord from that harmonic progression, its three notes will be contained in this scale. Want an F#m chord? Just start with that note as the 1 note. From there, count to the 3 note and then the 5 and those are the notes for the chord.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 D E F# G A B C#
The D major chord in the open position is one of the movable shapes from the CAGED system. This is the one we play on the first four strings with your index finger on the second fret, third sting, your ring finger on the second string, third fret and your middle finger on the second fret, first string.
With your fingers in that shape, you can then slide up the strings to different positions and play every major chord.
Here are some exercise files for D major:
And with that, the work siren calls... Can you hear her wicked song? Sounds so sweet until it dashes you on the rocks...
Peace~
