Hey Friend,
Today I'm on work detail, so this'll be short.
I've got a honey-do list that will keep me busy most of the day, ergo there is little fun planned for ol' Davey (Ooo, listen to him with his fancy words!).
There's a contest going on over at Puremix.net celebrating MusikMesse you might want to check out. MusikMesse is the European version of NAMM, where you can see all the new gear coming out every year.
I know there's a few of you that like to record music, and while this contest is heavily geared towards the audio mastering process, there's still some nice stuff you could use in your home studio.
BTW, if you don't know what mastering is, it's the final step in the recording process to make sure the music sounds its best before you hear it.
One item is a full version of AVID Pro Tools 12, which is the digital audio workstation (DAW) of choice for just about every professional studio and band out there. Personally, I'm a Presonus Studio One guy, but it never hurts to have another tool in the shed.
I'm more excited about the pro membership to puremix, which is a training website dedicated to teaching the art of recording and mixing. It's run by Grammy nominated Fab Dupont, with additional pros coming in to teach sessions.
For example, Andrew Scheps is an icon in the industry. He's worked with Black Sabbath, Metallica, U2. Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, and Barry Manilow, to name a few clients. In fact, he's got three Grammys to his name.
I guess I've always been sort of a geek when it comes to recording, so this stuff appeals to me. When I was a kid, I'd put records on the player and then record them to cassette tape to make them portable. I used to demand total silence when I was recording and would get pretty miffed when someone walked in the room while I was doing my thang...
Alright, gotta go get crackin' on the work list. Remember, you may have no interest in recording or mixing - only guitar. I can respect that. Focus is very admirable and hard to find in this world today. You can get focused Rock guitar training (with feedback) from pro guitarist Paul Gilbert. Paul is the guitarist of Mr. Big (huge hit "To Be With You") and is a teacher at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) out in L.A. He's also got the Rock Guitar School over at ArtistWorks.
Enjoy your Saturday.
Peace~
