I got stuck working on some j.o.b. related stuff this morning, so this message is stunted.

I feel this compulsion to rant about the current state of computer operating systems and software, but I’m not going for the bait. The end result is always the same - wasting my time on something I can’t do anything about. Frankly, it’s too exhausting…

Guitar is simple. Pick it up and make noise - any noise. True, it helps if you know where to put your fingers but even strumming the open strings can be highly satisfying.

Take for example "Angel In Blue” by J. Geils Band. The intro to the song is just a down strum of all six strings in standard tuning.

This is a great song; simple to play with an easy progression, loads of fun to play. Maybe I’ll tab it out for you...

If you had a chance to study the article I suggested yesterday, you probably found it getting a bit heavy into theory, which may have been intimidating. That’s okay, take it or what it’s worth. 

You don’t have to learn theory to make music. You don’t really need an academic understanding because your brain already knows what music should sound like. It’s already wired in, almost instinctual.

But understanding theory can help you understand how the music works, which gives you the knowledge of how to manipulate notes and chords to get a result for (or for) your listener. An emotional response, so to speak.
