Subject: Changing Habits

Hey Friend,

Yo! What’s happening? Tuesday AM in da hood…

Do you know where your motivation is?

Mine’s sure not into going to the j.o.b., but bad habits and all…

You know the ones that involve eating on a regular basis, sleeping indoors, wearing clothes (that’s for your benefit, not mine, LOL - you do NOT want to see that!).

We all have habits we’ve picked up over the years. Many of them are good and beneficial habits - like the brushing and flossing your teeth, or taking a regular bath (thank you).

But some habits don’t really serve us well. In fact, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that for most of us, some of the habits we follow may be doing more harm than good.

Let’s talk about guitar habits for a second…

Do you pick your guitar up every day? When you do, is it to practice, or to goof around? Do you have a goal for your practice session?

Wait, did he just say every day? Practice session? Goal???

Yeah, I know, who’s got time for all that?

Hey, I’m right there with you. You’d be shocked to know I don’t pick up my guitar every day! That’s a BAD habit!

When I recognize a shortcoming like that, it’s time to shake things up again.

What about you? Do you have a good guitar habit or a bad one?

Are you giving your axe a little special time every day?

If not, make a conscious effort to pick it up and strum a chord or play a simple riff.

I bet if you do that, you’ll end up spending at least five minutes playing through a few things. That will at least keep your fingers familiar with the fingerboard.

It’s not as good as an established practice routine, but we all have to start somewhere.

Building new habits takes baby steps. You have to make a point of setting aside the time and sticking with it until it becomes the habit you want it to be.

Change is always hard, but it’s the only way to grow away from the status quo we find ourselves living in.

Give it a try today.

Peace~
