Subject: Called for Jury Duty

Hey Friend,

I received a jury summons in the mail from the county I live in. I lived in Ohio for over 30 years and only got summoned once - and received an exclusion because I was the sole source of income for my family.

Move to Florida and I get called within our first six months!

I called this morning to find out if I need to show up tomorrow morning. Turns out I do...

All I can think of right now is...

"Jury duty, jury duty, jury duty, black mail, pink slip, chain letter, eviction notice, jury duty." - How The Grinch Stole Christmas

We watch the film as a family every holiday season. That's just one of the great quotes from the live action movie starring Jim Carrey, one that is certainly resonating with me right now!

So there's a fair chance I'll have some time to dream up more twisted little exercises to help you expand your abilities with guitar chords.

Exercises you're going to need to train your fingers and hands in the wild ways of chord play.

Part of the challenge with playing chords isn't just the contortions your fingers, hands and wrists need to get used to, it's also the chord shapes themselves.

Look at barre chords, especially those with the root note on the fifth string. Here's a very common chord shape, one you will learn to use ALL THE TIME...

But it's so challenging in the beginning!

Not only do you need to barre the top five strings of the fingerboard with your index finger, but then you need to barre strings two, three and four with your ring finger two frets above the index finger.

Which means there's a somewhat un-natural bend in your ring finger at the first joint because you have to make sure the first string isn't muted by your ring finger.

It's an uncomfortable, alien contortion, but it is completely doable with practice. And you'll get these exercises and more when The Chord Clinic comes out.

In the meantime, Easy Power Chords will have you playing simple chords in barre chord locations up and down the neck. Whether you're just itching to play songs right now, or you want some killer chord substitutions for a powerful Rock sound, the Easy Power Chords ebook has all the chord charts you need to make it happen. Peace~
