Hey Friend,
Total blond moment... I told you yesterday I had the tabs, then completely didn't put a link in the email for them. Lucky you... you get the tabs and the MP3 today. Sorry about that! I'm such a liar...
It's one thing to see possible chord substitutions next to the chord they're substituting, but you'd probably like to see them in an actual chord progression or two. Here are the exercises for today.
The first system is an intro for a song by Mayday Parade called " Call Me Hopeless, But Not Romantic." I have it set in standard tuning and at a slower tempo than in the song. It was recorded with the guitars tuned a half step higher (which you could do with a capo on the first fret).
We alternate the chords between C major and Cadd11 (which is also like a Csus4). The shift between the chords is subtle - it's a little hard in the audio to hear the F note as is comes in, but it's there. I tried to enhance it a bit in the mix, but it's still a little quiet.
The second system is a simple strum pattern and progression, trading C major for C7M (C major 7).
And since C7M is a handy chord to know, I created a little arpeggio riff using it as well as Am7 for the third system.
Clearly we've only scratched the surface with these, but you'll start to get a feel for all the possible flavors of chords at your disposal. Feel free to take these and mess around with them. Twist them around and come up with your own ideas. Take the other chord options from yesterday's email and try subbing some of those in. Have some fun with it... it is music, after all!
Peace~
