Hey Friend,
I sat down this morning with a riff going through my head, which prompted picking up a guitar and playing through it. It's from a song by Paramore called " Brighter." I'm sure I've mentioned it in the past. Brighter is from one of the early albums (All We Know is Falling) when the band was more punk than pop. A lot changed when the Faro brothers left the band, and while Paramore has been successful, I definitely prefer the edgier, rockier time.
The song is in the key of A major, and the guitar tuning is actually Dropped D (where all the strings are tuned standard except the sixth string, which is lowered to D). That down tuning gives it some added depth and grit. Take a listen, see what you think.
This song has been stuck in my head for a couple days now - it was in the car CD player when I headed to work, and now I guess it's in a loop in my head. There's a good, driving beat, strong vocals and interesting guitar tracks. Even the bass line is well thought out - it gives a solid melodic foundation.
Anyway, it was a little bit of good guitar therapy this morning. The guitar felt good in my hands - like it belonged there. The riff came back to me easily, and before I knew it, I was playing through the entire song from memory.
Okay, my little dream is getting jarred by the alarm telling me it's time to get moving for work. Until tomorrow...
Peace~
