Subject: Binge Listening

Hey Friend,

Quickly, before I forget, if you are at all interested in recording music, Puremix is giving away some cool stuff this week in honor of GearFest, including Presonus gear and software. I've been using my Presonus DAW and audio interface for years and they have always delivered. Being the gear junkie that I am, I'd certainly love to get my hands on this stuff!

After seeing Weezer Wednesday, I've been binging on their Youtube videos. I've also been over to Songsterr.com for tabs. Some are better than others, but many are a good start if you're interested in learning some tunes. Like many tab websites, you have to sort through what you can use. Songsterr is a good starting place.

Funny little side note... When I was on my second job interview Tuesday, it came up that I was going to the concert. Now it didn't surprise me that the boss hadn't heard of Panic! At The Disco. But when he said he'd never heard of Weezer, I was like, "Really?!"

Weezer's first album came out in 1994, from which came three of their most well-known songs: "Undone - The Sweater Song," "Buddy Holly" and "Say It Ain't So." https://youtu.be/ENXvZ9YRjbo In total, they've put out ten studio albums, with the newest coming out in October last year. Being an Eighties guy myself, it's a cool little bit of trivia that Ric Ocasek (of The Cars) has produced three of Weezer's albums.

I guess I'm just a music geek. When I find something I like I get tunnel vision. Weezer's music is a bit offbeat, and there's a sort of melding of Rock, Punk and Grunge. Any time I hear a band that can mix up different styles of music successfully, my interest in them goes way up and I tend to put everything else on the shelf.

Who are you listening to now? What is the main draw for you - the songs, the style, the sound? Let me know.

Peace~

Dave

P.S. - BTW, something I've noticed is, Weezer uses a lot of power chords in their songs. That's 'cause they really like heavy crunch in their sound, and power chords are suited extremely well for heavy distortion. I've put together tons of Easy Power Chords for your consumption. Check 'em here...
