The B minor chord is the fifth chord in the E minor harmonic scale:

Em F#° G Am Bm C D
B minor is a product of combining the 1 3 5 notes from a B minor scale:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 (8)
B C# D E F# G A (B)
The notes are B, D and F#, which we also see in the E minor scale:
E F# G A B C D

Sorry for being so “cut and dry” this morning. Work related stuff has been gnawing at me and the #$&% phone has been pinging, causing me to be more distracted than usual. That’s the problem with work clients having your number… sometimes they think you’re on call 24x7 to handle every problem right now.
