Hey Friend,
We made it! B major is the last chord in the C# minor key. In the harmonic scale, it is the VII chord in the minor key pattern.
Im II° III IVm Vm VI VII
C#m D#° E F#m G#m A B
B major is constructed by combining the B, D# and F# notes:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 (8)
C# D# E F# G# A B (C#)
As you can see, we have the notes we need to make a B major chord right here in the C# minor scale, but remember, the triad actually gets its notes (1 3 5) from the B major scale:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 (8)
B C# D# E F# G# A# (B)
Got the exercises right here for you:
And that’s that. The end of the C# minor harmonic progression.
I feel like we’ve come to the end of a long trip - covering the five main major musical keys and then their five relative minor keys. We’ll review them quickly tomorrow, so if you haven’t been around that long (or you don’t remember where we started!), we’ll all get realigned tomorrow.
It’s Saturday - get out and enjoy yourself a little today if you can. We’re heading out to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which is a new adventure for us. Might as well take advantage of the amenities, since we live right here in Orlando (STILL feels weird to say…).
Have a great one!
Peace~
Dave
