Subject: Argh, Stagefright.

Hey Friend,

Why do we get nervous before a performance? We learn and practice, we feel good about what we know, but inevitably, the nerves gain a foothold and before you know it, you're wondering if the butterflies are ever going to quit goofing around and fly straight!

I had a phone interview this morning, and despite the preparation, I always get a touch of stage fright before the call starts. I guess that's a good thing, right? Keeps us on our toes and all, but dang, is it unpleasant!

I suppose I should try and turn it around - describe the feeling to myself as excitement instead of nervousness. I've just never been real good at kidding myself.

Of course, some of that feeling comes from a slight irritation that I'm not using the time to come up with cool exercises!

The call seemed to go okay, and the job itself would be interesting and allow me to work from home, so it has some things going for it. I told the recruiter he had me at "remote." Like we say in music, I'll play it by ear and see what comes of the call.

Do you have a method that works for you when it comes to battling nerves? It's funny, because I get less nervous being in front of a crowd than I do in a job interview. Maybe it's because performing is supposed to be a fun atmosphere where you're contributing to the experience, whereas a job interview is more uptight because you're usually on the outside looking in.

Anyway, enough of that. I'll get back to talking chords tomorrow - I gotta get rocking on some other stuff. Stay cool!

Peace~
