Hey Friend,
I’ve purposely kept the progression simple with the open D string as the base for each chord. It may not be true to the original score, but I was more interested in giving you a passable example of yet another song using arpeggios.
The song is written in the key of D major and makes use of chord substitutions to give it its unique airiness and feel. I’m a huge fan of Sus2 and Sus4 chords, so any time I get to use them I take advantage.
There’s also an interesting chord we haven’t talked about before - the minor Major 7th (m7M). It constitutes using a minor chord, but then adding the 7 note from the scale. In this exercise it happens to be a Dm7M chord that comes into play.
I didn’t notate the exercise at the same tempo as the song. We’re moving about 23 BPM slower than the original recording, so once you have the passage memorized, feel free to practice it at 143 BPM.
The exercise files for you:
If you’d like, tomorrow we can flesh out the rest of the song with the chords in the chorus. Let me know…
Have a great one!
Peace~
