Hey Friend,
Remember the old Rodney Dangerfield comedy bits? He was always saying he " don't get no respect." He must have been spending all his time practicing his home improvement skills!
Now if he had become a guitar player, things would be different...
Number 1...
10. Less Offensive Visually 9. More Mobile 8. Less Tools Needed 7. Less Physically Painful 6. More Fun Socially 5. More Impressive 4. Sexier 3. More Envy 2. Less Expensive 1. More Respect
Everyone wants to be respected. Aretha Franklin sang about it ("Respect"), as did Erasure ("A Little Respect"), Sting ("Show Some Respect"), The Rolling Stones ("Respectable"), Don McLean ("Respectable") and Tina Turner ("Show Some Respect"), to mention just a few. When you put the time in to really learn how to play guitar, many people will respect the effort you put it. Even though playing guitar looks easy, anyone who has ever attempted to play know that the ease comes from years of practice.
Because there are so many that have picked up guitar, only to put it down after a couple months because they weren't playing like Eddie Van Halen, there's a whole population of people that wish they would have kept on learning (so they could be like you).
As for the home improvement crowd, the finished product isn't really something that holds people's interest for long. Check it out...
So we put all these floors in - engineered hardwood. Took us months to finally get the last floor laid. Everyone that comes in sees the floor and says "Wow, beautiful!" Then they proceed to walk all over it...
No one really cares about the effort that it took us to renovate a bathroom or replace a toilet. They see the finished product and it's like "great, it looks like it's supposed to and it works," just like in every other house out there.
Again, I'm not knocking people who enjoy home improvement or do it as a living. And I am glad the work we've done is holding up under daily use. This was just me having a little fun since I've just spent about nine months working at trying to make this house livable and comfortable. I definitely have respect for people that do this stuff (correctly) every day.
Playing guitar is a lot more fun that doing those projects, so I'm glad the worst of it is over, I'm not done by any stretch of the imagination, but at least my wife finally feels like we're not living in a construction zone. If you've ever heard the saying "happy wife, happy life," you know what I'm talking about.
I'm gonna go enjoy a day by the pool now - it's my youngest daughter's birthday, and she's having some friends over, so it should be a fun day. Have yourselves a great Saturday!
Peace~
