Hey Friend,
Hope your Sunday was a good day. I spent the morning playing catch-up on stuff, so that's why this is getting to you late...
Did have pretty good lesson with my daughter. She's getting a lot of the same stuff you guys are, she just gets it in person! I'm also trying to focus on a particular song she wants to learn to keep it interesting. It's not the first time we've tried to do lessons, so maybe this time it will stick... Of course, she might get tired of ol' Dad after a while.
I have to say, sometimes we all need a little break. We need a recharge, and for me it seems the best way to do that is pull some songs out and dust them off.
I listened to a little Triumph earlier, and now some early Paramore ("All We Know is Falling" album). Most of the songs have a good driving beat and good guitar work. This was the pre-pop era of the band, and I'm a sucker for any good female vocals.
Heart, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Paramore, We Are The In Crowd, Avril Levine, Flyleaf, Scandal, Aimee Mann, Joan Jett, The Bangles... and yes, even T. Swizz (Taylor Swift) and Katy Perry... I guess this is because it takes a special vocal quality that most female vocalists don't have.
I'm not saying other women have bad voices - just not Rock voices. With Rock voices, there's no overbearing vibrato. It's straight-up power coming out of their mouths with a directness and a lack of flowery tricks (unlike a lot of the more recent R&B princesses).
I rocked along with a few songs and re-acquainted myself with the progression and riff of the song "Brighter." Jammed through it a few times and felt a little more like myself.
Anyway, gotta wrap this up. Sorry again for this being late and not the normally scheduled program. Talk to you tomorrow - Rock on!
Peace~
