Hey Friend,
I was perusing through all the cool stuff on Jamplay’s website and came across a feature that blew my mind…
I wouldn’t have believed it either, but when you start counting up all the various ways you can play a single chord and then you add altered tunings to the equation, it doesn’t take long to realize there are potentially thousands of ways to play one chord.
One freakin’ chord!
It’s a good thing we have computers to help map all this stuff out, but you still need to have someone actually play them to make sure they’re playable by a human.
I’m a chord and rhythm guy - leads really aren’t my forte. So when I see a resource dedicated to learning chords, I get a little excited.
There’s no way (and really no need) to learn all the possible chords, but it’s nice to know I can find the right chord in any situation.
Jamplay also has a ton of backing tracks to play over for anyone who loves to play lead guitar. Since we’ve been talking a lot about melody and scales, backing tracks can be invaluable to help you practice your scales and build your speed.
While a metronome is a critical tool for practice and to improve your speed, backing tracks can really help you sharpen your timing and phrasing. It's like having an entire band backing you up.
To be a decent musician, you’ve got to develop your sense of rhythm and timing. Backing tracks provide a great base to work from because you're learning how to play with other musicians. There's a certain 'feel' you pick up on when jamming with others.
Hey, we’re not playing mindless elevator music here!
If any of this sounds cool to you, go check out Jamplay. It’s on sale today and tomorrow (ending at midnight Monday) for only $5 - that's for a full month of access, too.
If you don’t dig it, cancel. They’ll even give you your $5 back!
Peace~
Dave
