| | | Hey Friend,
By now you've figured out I'm pretty stoked about guitar chords.
You also get that power chords are a staple among us rockers. If you want to play Rock (or Country or Blues), you must learn how to play power chords.
It's really strange to me that I didn't "know" anything about power chords until around 2008. Don't get me wrong - I had been playing them for decades. I just didn't know they had a name or that there was a complete set of power chord options.
I just thought I was using a lazy fingering for a handful of songs.
Actually, in many cases where I should have been using a power chord I was fingering the whole chord!
Here's just some of the songs I played in bands that use power chords:
- "Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult
- "Jesse's Girl" by Rick Springfield
- "Feeling Satisfied" by Boston
- "You Better Run" by Pat Benatar
- "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benatar
I'm sure there were a few more, but I'm not remembering them right now.
Since I became more "in the know" about power chords, I can see there are tons of songs where they're used.
Here's some other examples:
- "Whatsername" by Green Day
- "Feels Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana
- "All The Small Things" by Blink-182
- "In Too Deep" by Sum 41
- "The Anthem" by Good Charlotte
Okay, I could go on and on.
The great thing behind power chords is that's exactly what they bring to a song - power. There's tons of energy in them, especially when you crank an amp up with solid overdrive...
Scoop the mids and raise the bass and treble a bit and YOU ARE ROCKIN'!
Yeah, I dig powder chords.
Easy Power Chords shows you how to play 'em in every key.
Peace~
Dave
