Continuing with Gersowitz Libo & Korek’s commitment to educating about victims’ rights, Senior Partner Edward Gersowitz and Associate Anthony Makarov presented on the Child Victims Act for the New York City Bar Legal Referral Service staff. The Child Victims Act, recently signed into law on February 14, 2019, extends the date by which victims can bring a civil law suit, eliminates the notice of claim requirement, and creates a one-year window during which child sex abuse victims can bring a claim no matter how long ago the abuse occurred. Mr. Gersowitz and Mr. Makarov explained the features and statutory language of this important Act and discussed the increased rights of child sex abuse victims moving forward. |

Citi Bike Riders Injured on Faulty E-Bikes File Suit
Electric Citi Bikes have recently been the center of attention – and not in a good way. The brakes on the pedal-assist Citi Bikes have been faulty, causing serious injuries to the riders. Bicyclists hurt themselves after they slam on the brakes and hurtle over the handlebars.
At first, these riders blamed themselves for the injuries. However, the victims are now changing their minds as they realize that the injuries are resulting from the faulty electric Citi Bikes. This was further confirmed when Citi Bike pulled from service its entire 1,000 electric pedal-assist bikes because of a problem with their brakes. The fleet of e-bikes has also been pulled from Washington D.C. and the Bay Area.
