I hope you and your family had a great summer.
I must apologize- it seems that in all of the work and preparation we put in to planning and running the 2016 Gardiner Memorial Basketball Tournament, we missed reaching out to you to let you know about the event, along with the other big plans the Gardiner Foundation has to continue to give back to the South Bronx community throughout the year.
This year at the tournament, held in St. James Park in the Bronx, we handed out more than 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to the community youth, along with four college scholarships, numerous tablets and other educational electronic devices. We fed more than 3,500 people over the two-day tournament and handed out many giveaways to help bring families together.
Each year, the Gardiner Foundation outreach expands further into the community. The foundation does incredible work to help keep the youth of the South Bronx community off the streets and help those most in need. Not only do they run their annual basketball tournament, but they also run a Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, a holiday toy giveaway, free basketball clinics, and a Tru Talk program aimed at teaching the area youth to stay in school and use their education to help give back to the community.
Last year at the Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, we were able to hand out 600 turkeys with Thanksgiving meal fixings to families in need. This year, our goal is to hand out 1,000 turkeys and meals.
Your past support has helped get us this far. With your continued generosity, we will enable the Gardiner Foundation to reach our goal of 1,000 Thanksgiving meals handed out to those families most in need.
If you haven't donated this year, it's not too late. Any amount you can contribute will go directly to the foundation to help offset the costs of this year's tournament and their other community outreach initiatives.
