Edward Gersowitz to become New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) President-Elect
|
|
Ed Gersowitz became a member of the NYSTLA Board of Directors in 2011. His journey started as Secretary of the organization. Over the past four years, Gersowitz has moved up to First Vice President and his newest term on the Board of Directors as President-Elect is to begin July 2015.
Mr. Gersowitz is proud of the influence that NYSTLA continues to have on educating New York State consumers and the legislative community. This very important organization provides resources for members to continue their professional growth as attorneys in addition to providing a forum to spearhead the need for change in the legal system.

The Death of Yet Another Construction Worker Reiterates the Importance of the NY Scaffold Law
A construction worker was killed while working on a malfunctioning crane boom at the future home of The Even Hotel at 2nd Avenue. This is yet another reminder of the inherently dangerous construction industry and the all too common risks workers face every day on the job.
For many years, this Scaffold Law has been a debated topic among New York’s lawmakers. Big business lobbyists continue to argue that the law costs too much to continue to uphold. However, lawmakers have declined to weaken the New York Scaffold Law because it is, in most cases, the only avenue for injured construction workers and their families to get the compensation they need after suffering catastrophic or even fatal injuries from accidents at construction sites. The “Sunshine Bill” Provides Clarity to the New York Scaffold Law
A long-standing argument against the Scaffold Law is that it raises insurance rates in New York state. Advocates of the Scaffold Law challenge these claims by forcing insurance companies to release claims data. The advocates joined forces to propose the “Sunshine Bill,” which was passed by the Assembly Insurance Committee on March 19th by 19 votes to 5. It will now move on to the Assembly Codes Committee.
