Dear Friend,
I hope this finds you and your family safe during this unprecedented
time. This is normally the time when I mail out “ old school /snail mail “
personalized letters of support for The Gardiner Foundation. Alas, this
year, I have no choice but to send you an email, not quite as time consuming
but regrettably without the personal touch. |

In the past, you have supported
the Gardiner Foundation, our South Bronx not for profit 501(c)(3). As you may recall, my good friend
Dexter Gardiner lost his twin brother and five of his family members, ages 5–35,
in the most tragic of accidents on the Bronx River Parkway in the summer of 2007.
The story of how Dexter and I met was best captured by ESPN
writer Nick Tuths in the following link
- The Gardiner Memorial Tournament, a True Bronx Tale
The Gardiner Foundation relies heavily on individual donor support.
Requests for scholarships and educational resources are at an all-time high.
The generosity of our donors allows us to support these demands. As we can all
imagine, this time has been exceedingly difficult for children who already
live in uncertainty every day. In addition to the existing challenges they face
daily, remote learning without educational resources and reliable internet has
only added to their anxieties and stress. The city parks have been closed, not
allowing them access to outdoor sports and this closure threatens the
feasibility of our 15th Annual
2-Day Basketball Tournament, which, as most of you know, is our main fundraiser
of the year.
Since we have been working with Dexter and The Gardiner Foundation, we
have provided with your help:
- 56 scholarships to college bound Bronx high school students
- More than 5,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to our community
youth
- Hundreds of tablets and other electronic and educational tools to
students
- More than 5,000 turkeys and Thanksgiving meals to families in need
- Burial assistance and financial support to those suffering tragic losses
- Annual Holiday Toy Drives, Easter Egg Hunts, Basketball Clinics and many
other services to help those less fortunate
We are prepared to go full force to help the same community
we have been serving for the past 15 years, but we can’t do it without your
support. You can find a link to learn more about this incredible organization
at https://www.lawyertime.com/gardiner-foundation/ There is also a link to
donate if you are able to (tax deductible as the Gardiner Foundation has been
granted exemption under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Tax
Identification number: 32-0207075).
This pandemic has
impacted our lives, our businesses and our nation in ways none of us could have
ever imagined. The Gardiner Foundation is striving to continue to do their part
assisting an underserved community of children, but this will not be possible
without the extraordinary support of our donor community. On behalf of the children
and teens we serve, I am hopeful that we can count on your support during this
incredibly challenging time.
I am grateful for your
past support and
most of all, for your friendship. Stay safe and be well. |
