Pedestrian Injured in City-Owned Vehicle Incident
A settlement in excess of twelve million dollars was obtained for a pedestrian and her family after she was struck in a crosswalk by a left-turning vehicle owned by the City of New York and operated by a City employee. The pedestrian sustained a traumatic brain injury with psychological and cognitive impacts. Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. was able to demonstrate the liability of the City of New York and its employee. Senior Partner Ed Gersowitz, Senior Trial Partner Jeff S. Korek, and Senior Associate Attorney Daniel B. Linson worked together on this important case. |
| | Bicyclist's Triumph: Holding Accountable the City and Trucking Company in a New York City Collision Case
Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. secured a seven-figure confidential settlement against the City of New York and a private trucking company for a 27-year-old bicyclist who was struck and run over in New York City. The bicyclist underwent several surgeries to repair her foot before tragically requiring that it be amputated. The defendants attempted to claim that they were not responsible because the bicyclist was not in a designated bicycle lane at the time she was run over. However, discovery obtained by Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. showed that the City of New York had improperly designed the bicycle lane and did not provide sufficient warning signs for bicyclists and motorists. The case was prepared for trial by Senior Partner Ed Gersowitz, Senior Trial Partner Jeff S. Korek, and Senior Associate Daniel B. Linson. |
| | Chef Injured in Workplace AccidentA 45-year-old chef who had worked at some of the most prominent restaurants in New York City and throughout the world was severely injured when he slipped and fell in water and sewage. The water and sewage came from a break in a mainline pipe at one of the city's more prestigious restaurants. The dispute concerned principles of engineering and who bore the primary responsibility between the restaurant and the hotel housing the restaurant. Defendants also disputed the severity of the injuries and the chef’s inability to obtain future work. As a result of our new affiliation with Of Counsel attorneys Jay Dankner and Ed Milstein, the matter was thoroughly prepared for trial. Senior Trial attorneys Jeff S. Korek, Jay Dankner, and Avi Laby were the primary attorneys assigned to the case. The matter settled on the first day of jury selection (Supreme Court, Bronx County) for $2.95 million. |

We are thrilled to announce the return of Cydney Korek to Gersowitz Libo & Korek P.C. After one and a half years of dedicated service to the people of the State of New York as a law clerk for Judge Anthony Cannataro, Cyd is back with us.
As one of Judge Cannataro's law clerks, Cyd honed her legal research and writing skills and gained invaluable insight into the workings of New York State's Highest Court. She worked on both civil and criminal appeals and attended sessions in Albany, NY, gaining a deep understanding of the court's critical role.
Cyd's journey has been nothing short of inspiring. During her previous time at GLK, she focused on medical malpractice and personal injury cases, handling everything from investigation to trial. Cyd plans to pick up where she left off.
In her personal life, Cyd enjoys quality time with her husband, Andrew, chasing after their energetic toddler and their beloved Weimaraner.
