| On Saturday August 18th and Sunday the 19th, Gersowitz, Libo & Korek P.C. will host the 13th Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament in St. James Park in the Bronx. Known as one of the elite street basketball events on the East Coast, the tournament provides two days of high-flying hoops featuring eight of the best teams from around the country.
One Bronx family turned tragedy into hope and triumph through the simple game of basketball. After losing six family members in a crash on the Bronx River Parkway in 2006, Dexter Gardiner and his wife Sherri chose to dedicate their lives to help the youth of their community and their neighbors who had also suffered a sudden and tragic loss.
After their terrible loss, the Gardiners built upon their family’s legacy of helping others by establishing The Gardiner Foundation, a nonprofit organization. This year marks the 13th summer the Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic tournament has provided educational scholarships, financial and emotional support, and burial assistance to other families who have experienced an unexpected tragic loss.
The Details of the Event
The Gardiner Memorial 13th Annual Basketball Classic Tournament will be held on Saturday August 18th and Sunday the 19th at the St. James Park, located at W. 192nd Street and Jerome Avenue, in Bronx, New York. The games will start at 12 noon and go until 8 pm. Eight teams will compete in an elimination-style format on Saturday. Sunday’s games include the semi-finals, youth all-star game, the championship game, and the Gardiner Foundation Scholarship Presentation Ceremony.

| Helping Us Help Others Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament

In past years, The Gardiner Foundation reached its goals of helping others in similar tragic situations with the help of many donors. They gave away scholarship awards, electronics and other school necessities. Last year, more than 750 backpacks with school supplies were handed out. This year promises to be no different. Families will celebrate the memory of their loved ones, while enjoying free live entertainment and free food and drinks throughout the weekend. There will also be scholarship presentations to the most deserving.
Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. (GLK) has been a title sponsor of this annual event since 2009. The money and manpower we donate each year provides various needs supported by The Gardiner Foundation. Donors can contribute by mailing a check to The Gardiner Foundation c/o GLK at 111 Broadway, NYC 10006 or by clicking on the "Donate Now" button below. The money will be used to fund additional scholarships for 2018, including but not limited to, Tru Talk Program, Turkey Giveaway, and mentoring trips.

The Gardiner Memorial 13th Annual Basketball Classic Tournament will be open to the public- all are welcome. It will be held at the St. James Park, located at W. 192nd Street and Jerome Avenue, in Bronx, New York on August 18th and 19th. The games will start at 12 noon both days.
