Deaths and Illnesses Related to Vaping Cannabis on the Rise
Concerns over cannabis vaping-related deaths and illnesses continue to mount, as U.S. Health Officials again warned people to stop vaping until investigation is completed to determine why some consumers are coming down with serious and even fatal breathing illnesses. These illnesses and deaths include individuals vaping marijuana. Public health officials reported that a person in Oregon who recently died of a severe respiratory illness used a vape pen containing cannabis oil from a legal dispensary.

Health officials in some states reported that a number of people who got sick had vaped products containing THC. Wisconsin public health officials reported last month that 89% of the people they interviewed who became sick reported using e-cigarettes or other vaping devices to inhale THC. In New York, 32 cases of vaping-related illness have been reported with a “vast majority” involving people who vape illicit marijuana. None of these illnesses and deaths have involved medical marijuana products sold in compliance with state law.

OSHA Warns Employers About Heat Related Work Injuries and Fatalities
Summer days can be long and hot in most U.S. states, including New York. Working in these extreme conditions can result in serious injuries and fatalities. This has prompted the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to remind employers and employees that environmental heat exposure should remain a concern even as summer winds down.

The BLS highlighted data in a post published in the August 30 edition of The Economics Daily showing that environmental heat exposure contributed to 37 work-related deaths and 2,830 nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in 2015. Nearly 90 percent (33) of the deaths occurred during the months of June through September.
