This month’s astrological activity is not quite as active as the past few months but we still have a couple of noteworthy planetary activities. We start the month in the energy of a Mercury retrograde as well as the New Moon in Sagittarius (although it hits the west coast on the night of the 30th) which is always a good time for feeling adventurous and taking risks! The Sagittarius New Moon encourages us to be brave, explore our world and expand our minds! Mercury retrograde reminds us to clean up our acts. This is a good time for setting new goals but not necessarily acting on them…yet.
That’s because Mars, the planet of action, is going retrograde on 12/6 and will appear to be moving backwards in our sky until the end of February. When Mars goes retrograde, we are usually faced with looking at our goals again and making adjustments. Planetary retrogrades can act as triggering events for some people and this might spark some action in our lives! If you’ve been feeling unmotivated, sluggish or in need of adjustment, this Mars retrograde might get you going soon. If you started something around the start of November, when Mars first entered Leo, you might find that you have to redo some things now. This time period encourages us to re-examine our motives and tweak our plans as necessary. It’s not always easy to get actions started during this time so this might be more of a time of regrouping. You can see what area of your life will be most likely affected by looking at 17 degrees of Cancer to 6 degrees of Leo in your chart. If you need help with that, come see me for a consultation.
On the same day, December 6, Venus enters Aquarius. While Venus is here, our relationships take on a more intellectual tone and the emotional affection tends to grow a little colder. That’s because Aquarius is a sign that often detaches from the emotional experience in order to gain more objective viewpoints to draw logical conclusions that benefit society as a whole. Venus is the planet ruling our relationships with others as well as our relationship with money. We might find that our personal desires have a more cerebral or even humanitarian tone during this time. Venus will be here until January 2nd.
On 12/7 Neptune goes direct once more at 27 degrees of Pisces. Neptune and the other outer planets (Uranus and Pluto) are often in retrograde so it’s not typically a widely noticed experience as it is when the inner planets go retrograde such as Mars or Mercury. However if you happen to have a personal planet or angle at this degree of Pisces, you might notice a positive shift here. Neptune encourages you to daydream, to imagine and to believe in your dreams.
On 12/15 Mercury, the planet of communication, goes direct once more and we can hopefully breathe a sigh of relief. Things might be making more sense to us now and with the accompanying Mars retrograde, we might have better ideas on what it is that needs our immediate attention. It’s still not ideal for making big changes happen, but it certainly helps to have our heads back in the game.
Also on 12/15 we have a Full Moon at 23 degrees of Gemini. This is typically a very busy moon. This is a great time for social activities and enjoying the holiday season! I wouldn’t try to accomplish anything serious during this time. This is a better time for having fun and keeping things light. Enjoy!

On 12/21 the Sun enters Capricorn and the energy shifts us into the winter season. As the Sun is in Capricorn, this area of your chart is highlighted, asking you to get real and to plan for the future. Capricorn is a very goal oriented sign, take advantage of this energy and start making your new year’s resolutions!
On 12/30 we have a New Moon in Capricorn at 9 degrees. This is an excellent moon for setting goals, starting new projects and making changes in your everyday life. Look to the year ahead and start making your plans now!
In numerology, December 2024 is a special month. It is a Master number 11 month. This is a month of spiritual messages, of insights and intuition, of inspiration and illumination. Pay attention to the signs coming to you this month and notice the little things. Notice how it is all connected, like the parts of a moving engine, propelling us forward as humanity reaches new heights. This is a month to look for the magic in the world or to create it yourself. Pay attention to your dreams and listen to your gut. There is much illusion out there right now. You must tune into your soul to discern the truth. Listen carefully for that small voice within you, meditate and listen. Meditate and open your third eye. You will see through the illusions.
Things are about to get even more confusing in the weeks to come. It’s going to be important for each of us to tune in.
