When you grow old - who will look after you?

In August, Konsthall C finishes its extensive project Care and Value.

The project is a collaboration between care and cultural workers who explore the conditions of care work from a feminist perspective with a focus on different generations, groups, backgrounds and experiences. It is supported by Kulturbryggan.

The exhibition With Aching Backs and Hearts With Room for More displays works by, among others, Anna Kinbom, Shaon Chakraborty and Lilian Lindblad Domec. The story of Lilian and her relationship with the healthcare system in Sweden is told in the first of four events that conclude Care and Value.

Gunilla Lundahl presents the work of Lilian Lindblad Domec

11 August 2022 18:00 at Konsthall C

Event is in Swedish.

Join us to hear Gunilla Lundahl discuss the work of Lilian Lindblad Domec and how her practice entwined with questions of care and the conditions of care work. The artist Lilian Lindblad Domec (1922–2017) has, like many of her female contemporaries, passed off the radar. With both her life and her works, however, she has much to convey about the conditions and meaning of art. The presentation will reference Gunilla Lundahl’s recent publication about the Lilian Lindblad Domec: Skrattet och skärpan (2021).

Gunilla Lundahl is a writer and critic with a focus on architecture, design and art. She is one of the initiators behind the women's collective BIG (Live in Community), which since the 1970s has investigated collective housing options and processes. Lundahl has published a number of books, including Leken och allvaret (2017) about the practices of the designers Ulla and John Kandell and Karaktär och känsla (Character and Feeling) (2001) which deals with a century of Swedish folk art. Lundahl lives and works in Stockholm.

Care and Value: A discussion about how we can change care and its conditions

August 18, 2022 15:00–17:00 at Konsthall C

The event is held in Swedish.

Join a collective conversation about demands for changes to the conditions for care work in Sweden. The discussion is based on the stories and interviews in Vård och Värde's three newspapers, and invites questions and politicians to answer how these will be carried forward in the political arena. The event begins with presentations from Sonja Höök, Gunilla Lundahl, Martin Nordström and Palle Storm about some of the most pressing issues in elderly care today, followed by a joint discussion discussing how we can change today's elderly care for better working conditions and conditions for the elderly care staff and care recipients.

The Bridge Radio presentation and party!

20 August 2022 17:00

This event will be in English.

On the final weekend of the exhibition we will be joined by members of the collective - The Bridge Radio, who will discuss the new audio piece they made as part of Vård och Värde and their wider work. The Bridge Radio discusses the conditions for aging in the asylum system, and the role of mutual care in resisting the diseases that the racist asylum system creates through enforced waiting. The conversation raises important questions about who has the privilege of aging and under what conditions?

The presentation will be followed by food and refreshments after which The Bridge Radio will host a closing party to the exhibition!
