Meditation Room Location: Konsthall C, Cigarrvägen 14, 123 57 Farsta, Sweden Reimagined at Konsthall C, the original Meditation Room, which first opened in 1952 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, aspired to serve as a multi-faith, room of quiet for contemplative, spiritual reflection in the vision of an ideal, peaceful, “new world order.” The Meditation Room is reconstructed at Konsthall C to invite spiritual reflection in a contemporary art space. It will also be used for critical political discussions that address the role of Sweden in global affairs historically and today. We will also hold community gatherings, reading nights, and meditation sessions.

During his residency at the Research Station, artist Mohammed Tatour produced a series of four large-scale paintings that respond to the Sacred Spaces theme, specifically recalling traces of esotericism from within the Islamic historical tradition. His paintings depict winged creatures that invoke motifs of birds and angels in Sufi poetry and are encrypted with divine numerology, a sacred science where numbers contain signs and symbols from God. The works tell stories of encounters between angel-creatures that take place in the realms of heaven, hell, earth and beyond. |
