Talk with Afro Charities director

Hi!

You may have followed our program for a long time, or we may be new to you. No matter who you are, you are here for a reason. Konsthall C is one of the most exciting places for contemporary art, and the exhibitions and events we produce bring out big questions and strong opinions. But what happens behind the gallery walls? How do we work at Konsthall C?

Konsthall C is special in the way the artistic program informs the structure. Starting out as a work of art, the aim has always been to blur the boundaries between the organisation and the program. This gives us an opportunity to experiment with the way we work. Since a couple of years ago, we have let a new type of ideas, for example decoloniality in art, guide us towards a different kind of organisation. It is an intensive work we carry out internally, and in conversations with our siblings internationally.

We now want to open up the conversation.. We want more people to think about how art is created and displayed. What is your relationship to Konsthall C? What kind of art world do you want to see?

Savannah Woods - Afro Charities

Wednesday October 12 at 18:00 - 19:15
Location: Konsthall C, Cigarrvägen 14, T-Hökarängen

Light dinner served after the talk.

Konsthall C welcomes Executive Director Savannah Woods from Afro Charities, a non-profit organization that manages the 130-year-old newspaper archive belonging to AFRO American Newspapers. Afro Charities produces artistic and educational projects inspired by the newspaper collection. The AFRO's collection is one of the best-preserved black newspaper archives in the United States, and includes approximately three million photographs, thousands of letters, rare audio recordings and other materials related to the publishing business.

Savannah Woods will tell the story of The AFRO, a newspaper that has been chronicling history through a Black lens since its founding in 1892. With editions across the Eastern seaboard, and European bureaus during World War II, the archives extend well beyond our home city of Baltimore.

The research station named Spotlight of the Year

Konsthall C and SPRIDD architects are named Spotlight of the Year! The Gestaltad livsmiljö conference - which is organised by The Public Art Agency, The Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, The Swedish National Heritage Board and ArkDes - is a national gathering point for architects, urban planners, etc.

Among other things, the jury highlighted the unique cooperation agreement that we designed together with the family who leased their plot to the residence.

We are currently developing our residence formats. Are you interested in collaborating? Email us at info@konsthallc.se.

Gabo Camnitzer collaborates with Konsthall C in education

This year's educational collaboration with all of Farsta's municipal preschools is led by the Argentinian-American artist Gabo Camnitzer. The project Why? (put your ear to the ground and tell me what you hear) gives five-year-olds the opportunity to discuss the injustices of life, and make their voice heard in the art room. Inspired by the century-old fairy tale Warum, Gabo has developed a concept that encourages young children's creative thinking.

Our educators Malin and Birgitta are currently out in the district's preschools to initiate conversations with the children. On 26 November you can see the result at Konsthall C. Then we will inaugurate Why? (put your ear to the ground and tell me what you hear), one of Sweden's largest exhibitions by and for children!
