Last week with The Measure of City Pathways

Do not miss Akinbode Akinbiyi's deep dive into the African megacities Lagos, Bamako and Johannesburg.

Award-winning photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi has been documenting life and movement on the continent for over 40 years.

We quote Magnus Bons in Dagens Nyheter: "Watching these contour-sharp, contrast-rich and chaotic events in a former laundry room in Hökarängen feels both strange and in some way completely logical."

The exhibition is open until October 31. Welcome! Free entrance.

As a closing event our artistic director Ulrika will hold a guided tour on Saturday at 1 PM. Don't miss this curator's introduction to Akinbode Akinbiyi's long career in art, as well as his intimate relationship with the Africans cities.

Guided tour: Saturday October 30 at 1 PM.

Let the Tobacco area sing!

Invitation to collaborate on a choir project in Hökarängen.

Do you live in one of the houses overlooking the courtyard? Do you like singing? Would you like to be part of a temporary art happening?

The South African artist, James Webb, and local musician Nina Grigorjeva, are collaborating with Konsthall C on a special event in the courtyard and are looking for singers to collaborate with. You don’t need to be a professional singer, you just need to be keen to participate.

The idea is to create a temporary choir made up of residents of the apartments that share a courtyard. Together we will work on a song that can be sung from the windows and balconies overlooking the courtyard. The audience will be situated in the courtyard and will experience the song being all around them, coming from the windows and the balconies of the houses. It will be as if the buildings are singing to each other.

The idea came from how during the 2020 lockdown in Italy, isolated people sang from their balconies. And, in a way, our project is like a softer and more melodic Lappis scream.

The rehearsals will involve singing exercises, group singing, free vocalisation, and experimental, spatialised singing. It will be fun. They will last about about 90 minutes, and include soup and bread.

We will be having rehearsals on the following days:

Tuesday, 2 November: 18:00 - 19:30

Tuesday, 9 November: 18:00 - 19:30

Tuesday, 16 November: 18:00 - 19:30

The Local Artists' Network in Centrifug

During 28–31.10.2021, the walls in Centrifug at Konsthall C turn into a physical Hökarängen map.

Together with local artists, we are mapping out the local art scene in the urban landscape where the creative workforce can be invisible. We invite you to the map in Centrifug, where you can find out more about the art scene in Hökarängen. If you are a local artist, you are also welcome to add to the map during the exhibition period.

Let’s break isolation and come together!

Exhibition: 28–31.10 at Konsthall C

Organized by our intern Wendy /Chih Tung Lin.

Mansi is back at Konsthall C.

Konsthall C part in PhD study

Researcher Mansi Kashatria returns to Konsthall C to conduct a global study of alternative social-contemporary art practices.

Almost two years after the self-initiated research project Building a Decolonial Process for Konsthall C, Mansi Kashatria returns to Sweden and Konsthall C with her PhD project titled Study of an alternative social-contemporary art practice which ties the South and the North in a re-imagined version of the global.

text.

- Being back at Konsthall C would mean not just following the ongoing artistic program, but also its relationship with Hökarängen, Sweden and the global. I hope for it to be a collaborative journey where our academic and artistic research/practices can collide and find its way to the society through forms more accessible, relational, and emancipatory.

- Mansi Kashatria

The PhD relates to Konsthall C’s ongoing work to re-imagine its own constitution and identity in the local context.
