Classic Chess and Scholastic Tournament

Test your skills in a competitive environment! Chess Zone's April Saturday Classic is coming up on April 27th. With a prize fund of up to $1250 (50% guaranteed), you have a chance to improve your game and walk away with some cash. Pre-registration pricing closes on Wednesday.


We’ll be hosting our Scholastic Tournament this Sunday, April 28th. This tournament is a great introduction to rated play for K-12 students.

April 27th - CHESS ZONE CLASSIC CHESS TOURNAMENT

Three rounds, Swiss System, USCF rated (quick rated)


SECTIONS and PRIZES:

One OPEN section with class prizes:

CHAMPIONSHIP: CLASS B and above (rated 1600+): 1st — $500 2nd — $200

RESERVE: Class C, D, E (rated between 1000 and 1599). 1st — $250 2nd — $125

BOOSTER (U1000): Rated under 1000 and unrated. 1st — $100 (+trophy) 2nd — $50

“Special” Top Senior (age 50+) prize awarded: $50.


Time Control: G/75; inc. 30; USCF rated.

Entry Fee: $50.00 if pre-registered by 4/24; $60 by 4/27; $65.00 on-site; Free entry for (W)FMs, (W)IMs, (W)GMs – entry fees deducted from prizes. The field is limited to the first 50 registrants.

Schedule: Pre-registration closes at 9:00 am. On-site registration ends at 9:45 am.

Rounds: 10:00 AM, 2 PM, 6 PM.

1/2-Pt. Byes: Available, limit one. Must request 1/2-point byes before close of registration. 0-point byes available at any time for any round.

“Do Not Pair” option: Immediate family members may request to not be paired (Rds. 1 thru 2 only). Option must be requested before the close of registration.


April 28th - CHESS ZONE SCHOLASTIC TOURNAMENT

Four Rounds, Swiss System, USCF rated

Open all scholastic players (K-12) from unrated to 1299. Notation is required for this Tournament.


SECTIONS and PRIZES:

U1300: Open to scholastic players under 1300 and unrated. Trophies to 1st-5th place. Medals to all finish with 50% or greater that don’t win a trophy.

U600: Open to scholastic players under 600 and unrated. Trophies to 1st-5th place. Medals to all finish with 50% or greater that don’t win a trophy.


Time Control: G/25; inc. 5; USCF dual rated (regular and quick).

Entry Fee: $45.00 if pre-registered by 4/24; $55 by 4/28; $60 on-site. The field is limited to the first 40 registrants.

Schedule: On-site registration ends at 9:40 am. All players, including pre-registrants, please check in by 9:45 am.

Rounds: 10:00 am; rounds start 5 minutes after last game of prior round completes

1/2-Pt. Byes: Available, limit two. Must request 1/2-point byes before round 1 begins. 0-point byes available at any time for any round.


Unrated players must obtain a USCF membership (from https://uschess.org). Please arrive early (by 9:30 AM) if you need assistance on-site. US Chess Live rating will be used sections, pairings and prizes. Players may play up if rating within 100 points of the section requirement. Children may be dropped off at Chess Zone; please return by 1:45 PM to pick-up.

The Rated Game of the Week is on Tuesday nights. These tournaments have been filling up, so you can secure your spot by registering in advance. The first 50 who sign up will be able to play. Registration ends at 7:00 PM. Game starts at 7:30 PM. USCF Membership is required.
