Subject: Next Week's KC Schedule June 3rd - June 9th and Camp Reminders

Hi Coaches,

The 1st Kid Chess summer camp starts Monday, June 5th at Chess Zone.

Please review:

The Schedule of Activities is not meant to be a strict timetable, but rather a flexible guideline.  It should give you ideas of what lessons might need to be taught. Many activities will be going on simultaneously.

BE ON TIME

  •  Check the schedule to verify your times.

  •  Morning shifts are 8:30 AM – 1:15 PM. Afternoons are 12:45 PM – 5:15 PM. Morning and Afternoon shifts overlap to allow for extra coverage during dismissal & transitions.

  • The First day of camp, you should plan on arriving at 8:00.  On trophy day please plan to stay until 5:30 PM for cleanup.

DRESS APPROPRIATELY

Summer camp has a slightly more relaxed dress code, but please remember to use common sense.  Avoid T-Shirts, sandals, etc.  Shorts are OK but avoid cut-offs.  Please wear shirts with a collar and comfortable shoes, sneakers are OK.  Summertime Business Casual should be the guide.

Every instructor should be devoted to:

  • Teaching Lessons

    •         Bring your video flash drive and come prepared to teach (show) all lessons in the fundamental/foundational folder of the drive.

    •         Know and use the Socratic Method of teaching (Ask Questions).

    •         Be ready to run obstacle courses.

    • Students should be engaged in chess activities.

  • Behavior Management

    •         Properly entertained and engaged students will not cause behavior issues.

    •          Positive reinforcement of good behaviors should be used.

  • The Attention of the Students

    •         Chatting or playing with other coaches is not acceptable.

    •         Make sure you are contributing to the group, not just a couple of kids.

    •        Interaction & Relationships with the students.

    •        Learn students’ names and treat them with respect and genuine interest.

    •        Acknowledge and reward good effort and behavior.

    •        Make the children feel comfortable with you. SMILE!

REMEMBER, CAMP SUCCESS IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY.

Thanks so much for participating in the camp.  It should be loads of fun!
